Workshop Details

Encaustic painting originated in ancient Greece in the fourth century and is characterized by fusing molten wax and pigment with heat. Remarkably, paintings from thousands of years ago still hold their color, luminosity, and detail - making encaustic painting one of the most enduring painting methods in art history. In this immersive five-hour workshop, (including a one-hour lunch break), you'll create your own archival 8" x 10" encaustic piece ready to display or frame. All professional materials are included and no prior experience is necessary. With a class-size limited to five participants, this workshop offers individualized guidance and a focused studio experience. Learn how to: - prepare encaustic medium - mix pigments and and medium to develop your palette - apply and fuse layers using a variety of techniques - build texture, depth, and surface complexity - practice essential safety practices Open to a maximum of five participants. Refreshments are included - please advise of any allergies or diet restrictions. Workshops will be rescheduled or cancelled if two-student minimum is not met. Book today to reserve your spot.
